Message from H.E. Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya
Marhaba, Bula Vinaka, Namaste and Welcome to the website of the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Diplomatic relations between Fiji and the UAE were established on 17 March 2010. Fiji’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi was opened on 2 September 2012 a historic milestone, as Fiji became the first Pacific Island country to establish an embassy in the Middle East.
The Embassy is mandated to advance Fiji’s Foreign Policy and foster development cooperation with countries across the Middle East and the Gulf region. Its accreditation extends to the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, State of Qatar, Republic of Türkiye, Republic of Kenya, Kingdom of Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as to Fiji’s Permanent Representation to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UN-Habitat.
As Fiji’s first mission in a region home to more than 350 million people, the Embassy underscores both the strategic significance of the Middle East and Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with the wider international community.
The UAE serves as a vital hub and gateway to the Middle East and North Africa. It is recognized globally for its rapid progress in modern development, cutting-edge technology, science, space exploration, and good governance. Its status as a financial, communications, trade, transport, tourism, and industrial center makes it an influential partner. Fiji’s presence in this dynamic region aligns with the nation’s vision of “Transforming Fiji” and supports efforts to position Fiji as a hub for economic activity and regional engagement within the Pacific. The Embassy’s objectives are guided by Fiji’s National Development Plan (NDP) and global commitments, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement particularly in the areas of renewable energy, climate change, and social development.
In advancing Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, the Embassy actively promotes and safeguards the principles of Sovereignty, Security, and Prosperity.
Sovereignty: The Embassy strengthens Fiji’s independent voice in international affairs by forging partnerships based on mutual respect, equality, and recognition of Fiji’s national interests.
Security: Through cooperation in areas such as defence, climate resilience, humanitarian response, and multilateral engagement—particularly with UNEP, UN-Habitat, and IRENA—the Embassy contributes to safeguarding Fiji’s national, environmental, and human security.
Prosperity: By expanding trade and commerce, promoting ‘Fijian Made’ products, facilitating investment opportunities, advancing labour mobility, and fostering sustainable development collaboration, the Embassy works to enhance economic opportunities for Fiji and improve the well-being of all Fijians.
These priorities inform the Embassy’s wider mandate, which includes promoting Fiji through public and cultural diplomacy, marketing Fiji as a premier tourist destination, facilitating scholarships and employment opportunities for Fijians across the region, and strengthening the role of Middle Eastern and Gulf countries in supporting development initiatives for Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS). Through this work, the Embassy contributes to Fiji’s broader aspiration for global leadership and the national vision of “building a better Fiji.”
We hope the information provided on this website will help you learn more about Fiji and support our Fijian diaspora seeking consular services throughout the Middle East.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Embassy, and we warmly encourage you to visit Fiji on your next journey.
Shukran, Vinaka vakalevu, Dhanyavaad, and thank you for your visit.
